This decision by authorities has really brought disappointment and frustration to a lot of people. Many of you folks created tiktok accounts in order to entertain yourselves with videos on the platform but have since built a career out of it.

In a recent video Michael Le says that tiktok has built a community with people from all over the world and helped bring joy to people as well. He also claims that the app has let people build a career including himself.

He’s not the only one who has posted the video with the #savetiktok. Many creators are doing the same and this indicated that tiktok has truly created a community and joy during this hard time, despite the controversy. I do not create tiktok videos myself but I can still feel what the creators are experiencing right now.

No one is is sure if the app will get banned in other countries including the US. While waiting to see what will happen, you can download your videos from the app and start distributing them across other social video sharing platforms like instagram unless you were doing that already. I’ve seen this happen with popular Indian tiktokers who have done so and have somehow managed to carry their audience along with them.

So enough of talking, here’s how you can download your videos from tiktok. There are literally two ways I think you can do so:

1. Download the videos one by one. (manually)
2. Request your data from tiktok which will include the videos.

1.Download the videos one by one (manually)

This method is kind of difficult if you have a ton of videos and wish to download all of them. This is how you do it:

1. Launch the tiktok app and head to your profile.
2. Select the video you want to download and tap the three dots while the video is open.
3. Among the option, choose ‘save video‘.
4. Repeat the same to every video until you are done.

Using this method, you will have to download the videos one by one as I said. Besides, the downloaded videos will have watermark on them. If perhaps you don’t prefer downloading the videos with watermark on them, you can employ a third party downloader (be it an app or on the web)

For the web, proceed as follows:

1. Play the video you want to download.
2. Tap the share icon on the side of your screen and tap the copy link option.
3. Now with video link open, had over to your browser and visit snaptik.app/en
4. Paste the link on the provided bar and then click on the download icon beside the bar.
5. The video will then start to be downloaded and saved to your local device.

That was the first method you can us to download your videos, here’s the second one.

2.Request your data from tiktok

1. Launch the tiktok app and head to your profile.
2. Tap the three dots (usually at the top right corner of your screen)
3. Select ‘privacy and safety’
4. Choose ‘personalization and data‘ and then ‘Download your data‘
5. You’ll then be prompted to confirm your download by clicking ‘request your data’

With this method you will have to wait for almost 30 days until they have prepared your data for download. When they are done, they give you four days to download the data and when they are over without you downloading the request is cancelled. They consider it expired.
